Restaurant Week in Boston!

The last time we had restaurant week, we were so busy with school and exams, we didn't eat at any good restaurants.
but now.. muahaha

First stop! Turner Fisheries!

I had scallop ceviche, salmon, and peaches.
Sarah had scallop ceviche, rainbow trout, and grapefruit.

The citrus flavored scallop, served cold, with a sprig of cilantro, really clears up the palate.
The king salmon was awesome, crispy salmon skin, perfectly done salmon that separates at the fat, served in a seasoned broth with maitake mushroom, asparagus, and fingerling gold potatoes.
Peaches were done three styles, but i rather eat my fruit raw.
For benefit of Turner FIsheries, peaches were done three styles: grilled, cooked into a warm compote, and made into a gelato (sugar may peach, with juice from cara cara orange). Peaches good enough on their own seriously. (:

Sarah really like her rainbow trout also, pan-seared trout, moist white flesh with sea salted crispy skin, served alongside was a slaw made from crunchy strips of mango with lobster, placed atop ginger flavored short grained rice (think arborio for risottos)
She didn't like her grapefruit tart, too sour. she like my gelato though.

Yummmy! Feel super deprived, for the last few months, there's always no time to eat properly. The last time I had such good food was 5 months ago at Allegro. I'm loving the holidays, and I don't feel so sad that I didn't get to go back to Singapore.
Although i would trade yummy durians for anything anytime.

But next top, L'Espalier? HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH

Dramas drive people to do silly stuff

Summer Session II ended. (:
I finally have time to do nothing at all.

In times when you have nothing better to do, you watch dramas. (to meanie, I have watched the dramas that you recommended)

Anyway, so I was watching this korean drama called Soulmate (2006). I had this sudden realization! (Nothing philosophical, don't worry) In it, the female lead was extremely upset after breaking up with her boyfriend of 5 years. She went to a phone booth and randomly dialed people so she could cry/talk to anyone. As we can expect, the male lead picked up and was on the other end of the line. And although all the female lead did was sob uncontrollably into the phone, saying, "I am in extreme pain" (heartache), the male lead was extremely sympathetic of her situation despite that it was an extremely random phone call late in the night (apparently he can HEAR her thoughts).

Ah ha, and the realization is, THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME! And no, i did no such weird calling of my own.

In the year of 2007, during the hungry ghost festival (ard august), i received a similar phone call near midnight.
The random girl, was sobbing uncontrollably into the phone, and saying the exact same thing, that shes really sad and all. I think this was how the conversation went. (my memory ain all that great)

Me, "Hello"
Girl sobs.
Me,"Erm, hello yeah? you're looking for?"
Girl continues crying
Me,"Who are you calling?"
Girl continues cryinging.
Me, "Do i know you?" [i was thinking that she must be some poor girl my brother dumped]
Girl, "No. But i really need to talk to someone"
So i said, "erm ok.. tell me about it. whats wrong"
Girl cries, "I'm in a lot of pain"
Me, "whats wrong,? stop crying, whats wrong?"
Girl, "I'm in a lot of pain."
[back and forth without progress]
All she did was continue to cry uncontrollably, and tell me repeatedly how in pain she was.

After erm 20 seconds of listening to her cry into the phone, I got really freaked out.
It was the hungry ghost festival! And it was approaching midnight!!
So i hung up.

Me, "erm I'm really sorry, but feel better ok. Bye bye!"

I was really polite for two reasons. One, I was afraid she was REALLY a ghost, and two, I feel bad for her.
But mainly because of the first reason.

TWO YEARS from 2007, I finally know that weird phone encounter wasn't a "ling yi shi jian" (translated:supernatural encounter) but a heartbroken girl who got her inspiration from the korean drama that came out at about the same time.

Dramas really put ideas into people's head.
If i had watched the same drama in 2009, i would have done what the male lead did. Play her a nice music track.
Maybe that was what she wanted, and I wouldn't be so freaked out by the random phone call.
Blah.
